Introduction

The Vietnam Tanker JSC (VTO) was established in 1980 as a subsidiary company of the Vietnam Maritime Corporation. Privatization in 2005 changed the company from being state-owned to a Joint Stock Company with an initial charter capital of 400 billion VND. The VTO’s operations include ocean petroleum transportation, the trade of petroleum and related products, trading materials, machinery and equipment for petroleum transportation, property trading and rental, fleet repairing and maintaining. The VTO is the biggest ocean petroleum transporter in Vietnam with large a capacity ocean fleet group (tonnage 143,239 DWT) and an experienced crew. In 2006, the company transported 25% of Vietnam’s total imported petroleum, equal to 42% of PETROLIMEX’s imported volume. The VTO’s inshore fleet group has 40% of the market share of domestic transportation. That amount is equivalent to 66% of the total domestic transportation market share of PETROLIMEX.
