BSC Brief | 19.08: Sideways trading ahead of derivatives expiration

MARKET OUTLOOK
The VN-Index fluctuated within a narrow range of around 15 points and closed at 1,726.69 points, down 5.33 points (-0.31%) from the previous session. Market breadth was negative, with 13 out of 18 sectors declining. Media led the losses, followed by Automobiles & Parts and Telecommunications. In contrast, Basic Resources posted gains. Regarding foreign investor activity, foreign investors were net sellers on the HSX for the fifth consecutive session, while recording net buying on the HNX and UPCoM. The market moved largely sideways and formed a Doji candlestick, while relatively low trading volume indicated weakening momentum and cautious sentiment from both buyers and sellers ahead of tomorrow’s derivatives expiration session (August 20). We maintain our view that the market will continue to trade within a narrow range, with the short-term trend remaining unclear. Investors are advised to maintain a cautious approach to portfolio management.

• Foreign investors' net selling value: VND -711.48 billion on HOSE, including VIC (VND -136.21 billion), STB (VND -122.54 billion), VPB (VND -98.57 billion), GMD (VND -93.05 billion), VCB (VND -75.06 billion). Foreign investors were net buyers on HNX with the value of VND 4.82 billion.
